Daniela Martinez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and raised between Queens and Brooklyn, New York. Always interested in pursuing a creative outlet but unsure what direction to take, Martinez enrolled in NYC’s Fashion Institute of Technology for photography, but left after her second year. She eventually found her niche at The Art Institute of San Diego, California where she became intrigued by the underlying science of perfecting pastry.
Since graduating at the top of her class in 2014, Martinez has worked alongside and under esteemed chefs, and held positions at beloved San Diego restaurants including Ironside Fish and Oyster, Sugar and Scribe, Bracero, and Il Dandy/Arama. Chef Martinez’s colorful and seasonally-inspired pastries were featured in Jaqueline Bainto’s 2017 documentary Unleashed and in 2018, Zagat named Martinez as one of 8 Under the Radar Chefs in San Diego. She became a Food Network Chopped Grand Champion in 2019, after competing on their Sweets Showdown Tournament.
